Without any ado whatsoever, I'll jump right into the meat of the issue. When I spoke with Smith about this originally, I had a particular plan in mind. Having read through the email chains people have had on this (I've included those in another post), I think we have two paths forward here. The first path seems to have been taken up by Trey and Bookbinder, and that is the possibility of setting up an alumni chapter. The second path is the one originally foreseen by myself and Smith, which is the plan for an alumni association or foundation. I don't by any means think that these are bad ideas, or that they are in any way mutually exclusive. The more support and cohesion we can provide, both to graduating brothers and for the chapter itself, the better for the long-term strength of our organization. I think we need to push both carts down the road simultaneously, lest they get irretrievably stuck in the mud of inaction.
I certainly don't want to exclude anyone from any of the discussions, but the best plan moving forward here is to divide and conquer. If Trey and Bookbinder are willing to officially/unofficially head up the alumni chapter discussions, I can work with Smith on the alumni association/foundation plans. This makes some amount of sense to me, since the second option is going to require a lot of legal work (and I will knock that out, Alan Shore-style), and Trey has some contacts with Kappa Sigma HQ that will be helpful in tracking down the alumni chapter answers. Smith and Bookbinder can both be pretty. And Dr. K can provide the chapter's/brothers'/his perspective.
Thoughts? Concerns? Rants? Spontaneous violence?
